RIP to Vernon Forrest

RIP to former 3X boxing champion and 92' US Olympian Vernon Forrest (45-3, 29 KOs, 1 No Contest) was found shot to death at a gas station in Atlanta. Police investigators believe that Forrest was robbed at gunpoint while filling up air in the tires to his car. After being robbed he gave chase to the assailants and shots were exchanged between them. While, walking back he was struck seven to eight times, one which was to the head.

He is most notably known for his two victories over Shane Mosley. In his first victory Forrest became the first man to beat Mosley professionally. Prior to that fight he had defeated Mosley as an amateur during a boxing trial for the 92' US Olympics.

Forrest is the 3rd professional boxing champion to have died this month.

His funeral is set for Monday (8/3/09) at 1 PM at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, just east of Atlanta.
