RIP to Vernon Forrest

RIP to former 3X boxing champion and 92' US Olympian Vernon Forrest (45-3, 29 KOs, 1 No Contest) was found shot to death at a gas station in Atlanta. Police investigators believe that Forrest was robbed at gunpoint while filling up air in the tires to his car. After being robbed he gave chase to the assailants and shots were exchanged between them. While, walking back he was struck seven to eight times, one which was to the head.

He is most notably known for his two victories over Shane Mosley. In his first victory Forrest became the first man to beat Mosley professionally. Prior to that fight he had defeated Mosley as an amateur during a boxing trial for the 92' US Olympics.

Forrest is the 3rd professional boxing champion to have died this month.

His funeral is set for Monday (8/3/09) at 1 PM at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, just east of Atlanta.

Have a Problem. Drink a Beer.

Today President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden hosted a beer chat on a patio in the Rose Garden of the White House with Cambridge, MA police officer Sgt. James Crowley and head of Harvard University's African and African American Studies, Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Both men brought their families along with them to the White House where they greeted each other and toured the White House together before the beer chat.

After the beer chat Sgt. Crowley gave a press conference and stated that the meeting between him and Prof. Gates Jr. was productive. Prof. Gates Jr. wrote on Roots.com, "Let me say that I thank God that I live in a country in which police officers put their lives at risk to protect us every day, and, more than ever, I’ve come to understand and appreciate their daily sacrifices on our behalf. I’m also grateful that we live in a country where freedom of speech is a sacrosanct value and I hope that one day we can get to know each other better, as we began to do at the White House this afternoon over beers with President Obama."

P.S.: If you're wondering which each individual had to drink President Obama had a Bud Light. Vice President Biden had a Bucklers (Non-Alcoholic; He has stated before that he's never drunken alcohol before). Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr. had a Sam Adams Light. And Sgt. James Crowley had a Blue Moon.

Front/Back Dunk Bloopers

Double Front Flip of Death

Maybe he should of tried the backflip instead.

He's Back?

Michael Vick has been given a conditional reinstatement by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Earlier this week, Goodell released a statement in which he urged Vick to take full advantage of the resources that are available to him and for him to dedicate himself to rebuilding his life and career in the NFL. He went on to send Vick his support if he can accomplish these conditions. It is believed that Goodell may fully reinstate Michael Vick by Week 6 (Oct.18-19).

It'll be interesting to see who will pick Vick up if any at all. My best guess would have to be Detroit. Last season the Lions went 0-16, making them the first team in NFL history to do so, could use any help they can get.

Volkswagen to Buy Porsche

In Germany, reports are surfacing about the bid Volkswagen (VW) is making to purchase Porsche. It is believed that VW offered Porsche somewhere around 8 billion Euros ($11.3 Billion). Also, there were speculations about whether or not Porsche CEO, Wendelin Wiedeking, would step down from his position. Some sources were saying Wiedeking was willing to step down from his position as CEO of Porsche if he was given a severance pay of at least 100 million Euros ($142.3 Million). Earlier this week the speculations came true with the announcement of his immediate resignation. Reportedly he left his position with a settlement of 50 million Euros ($70 Million). Wiedeking was soon after followed by Porsche's financial director, Holgar Haerter.

Officials from both Volkswagen and Porsche have stated that they would like to keep Porsche's identity intact as well as its development independent, while it's under Volkswagen's umbrella, similarly to how Audi is ran. If the deal goes through the merger is expected to be completed by the middle of 2011.

Hillary Gets Picked On by North Korea

Yesterday, during a meeting consisting of US and Asian leaders in Thailand Hillary Clinton had insults cracked upon her by North Korean officials who called her names such as, "a funny lady," "a person who looks like a primary schoolgirl," and "someone who sometimes looks like a pensioner going out for shopping." Reportedly the jabs came as revenge for the remarks Hillary made earlier this week when she called North Korea's behavior as being like "unruly teenagers."

Ahmad-Back in the Day

Released in March of 1994, the certified gold single, "Back in the Day," peaked at #26 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100. For me this song has always been the perfect track for nostalgia. The way the song flips a sample of Teddy Pendergrass' 1980's single, "Love T.K.O.," is splendid.

What the Flip!!!

The Japanese version of Spiderman was created in Japan by the Toei Company in 1978 after they settled on a deal with Marvel to create their own version of Spiderman. In this series Spiderman is Takuya Yamashiro, not Peter Parker, and it follows his constant battles with the evil Iron Cross Army.

P.S.: I didn't know Spiderman had a robot, a motorcycle, and a machinegun.

Boxer Arturo Gatti's Wife Jailed In Suspicion of...

Last Saturday Arturo "Thunder" Gatti was found dead in his apartment in Brazil where he was vacationing with his wife and 10 month old son, while on his second honeymoon. It was reported early on that his death was suspicious for he suffered no bullet or stab wounds, but blood stains were found around his body. Police after having investigated the scene have now taking Gatti's wife into custody as the only suspect in the case.

The Brazilian police became suspicious of Amanda Rodrigues, Gatti's wife, when they noticed that Gatti had marks around his neck, which indicated to them that he was possibly strangled, and found a knife wound to the back of his head. They also found near Gatti's body a bloodied white purse strap and a small steak knife. A possible motive may have stemmed from a previous argument that the couple had, during the day and due to the fact that the two were allegedly having marital problems, in which Gatti was believed to be looking to divorce Rodrigues. Police believe Rodrigues may have premeditatedly killed Gatti by encouraging him to get excessively drunk before strangling him to death.

Kids in Philadelphia Banned From Private Swim Club Because...

View more news videos at: http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/video

An incredible story is being reported out of Philadelphia where in Huntingdon Valley, a Philadelphia suburb, the Valley Swim Club is being accused of denying children from a Northeast Philadelphia day camp called, Creative Steps, from using their pool. After one day of use the Valley Swim Club called up Creative Steps to tell them that they were refunding them their $1,950 back without explanation. When told the news Aetha Wright, the director of Creative Steps replied back, "The parents don't want the refund. They want a place for their children to swim." However, the privately owned Valley Swim Club reassured her of their decision to refund the day camp their money.

Children from the diverse day camp, which is predominately African American and Hispanic, cited racism as the probable cause. One child camper stated how he overheard one woman indignantly questioning why so many black kids were there and announced that she was fearful for her child's safety. Another camper recalled when all the minority children entered the pool all the Caucasian children immediately exited it and that the pool attendants told them that they weren't permitted into the pool, because they were minorities.

John Duesler, President of the Valley Swim Club addressed those accusations by saying it was for safety concerns not because of racism. He pointed to the fact that there were just too many kids on top of each other and many of them couldn't swim. Duesler has also released a statement saying, "There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion ... and the atmosphere of the club."

Now the incident has gathered lots of media attention, the day camp has hired a lawyer, and a formal complaint with the state commission was filed by the NAACP on their behalf.

Nike Confiscate Tapes of LeBron Getting Dunked On

It is being reported that on Monday night, during the LeBron James Skills Academy hosted by Nike, LeBron James was dunked on by Xavier Musketeers sophomore guard Jordan Crawford from Detroit, Michigan, during a pick-up game with various players from the Cleveland Cavaliers and NCAA. Shortly afterwards, officials from Nike confiscated all videotapes that may have recorded the incident, citing that they had violated rules banning any video recordings of the event.
One of those who's videotape was confiscated is freelance photographer Ryan Miller, who stated that he had been recording the event for roughly 15 minutes, until the dunk happened, and then immediately afterwards was told to relinquish the videotape by Nike basketball senior director, Lynn Merritt. Miller tells CBSSports.com, "He just said, 'We have to take your tape.' LeBron called Lynn over and told him something, that's how I knew his name was Lynn. LeBron said, 'Hey, Lynn. Come here.' There's nothing I can think of besides Lebron just not wanting it online. It's a good story to tell people, I guess. But then again, I'm kind of p***ed. I lost my tape." Miller also noted that there is no policy forbidding filming at the LeBron James Skills Academy and that he had been filming there all day without any incident, until after LeBron was dunked on by Crawford.

Jordan Crawford comments on the dunk.

"It ok LeBron even his 'Airness' with embarrassed at a Nike Basketball Camp function before.
Remember this?"

"LeBron at least it wasn't by a one-on-one game vs. a middle-aged CEO and Chairman of an investment company."

Ethnic Mob Clashes in China

Raw Footage: Warning the footage is graphic.

Clashes between Uighurs (pronounced ˈwē-ˌgr) and Han Chinese in Urumqi, China (population 2.3 Million) have reportedly killed 156 people and injured over 1,400 others causing the Chinese Government to send police and paramilitary troops to the city and Xinjiang region. Tensions had been brewing between the two ethnic groups for decades. Many Uighurs cite the Chinese Government's policies as being oppressive to their culture and livelihoods. It is reported that these policies include restrictions on religious practices (many Uighurs are practicing Sunni Muslims), phasing out of the Uighur language, and better economic opportunities given to ethnic Han Chinese, who now roughly make up 40% of the population in the Xinjiang region.

Reports state that the clash began when Uighurs protesters protesting the Chinese Government's handling of a brawl between Uighurs and Han factory workers when a rumor at the factory was spread accusing some workers of raping two women, ended with the death of some Uighur workers, began to attack Han Citizens and Han neighborhoods in retaliation, last Sunday. In return, some Hans mobs began targeting Uighur neighborhoods.

After the government crackdown in the region a curfew has been imposed from 9 PM to 8 AM and China's President, Hu Jintao has cut short his visit to Italy for the G8 Summit to help stabilize the country.

Summer Jam of the Day

Warren G-This D.J.

Warren G - This D.J.
Released back in 1994, "This D.J." was a hit record that reached all the way up to #9 on the Billboard Top 100. "This D.J.," was one of the singles released from Warren G's, "Regulator," album.

What has always captivated me about this song and album is that it sonically struts around with a "cool gangsta lean" feel to it. At no point does Warren G feel the need to over exert himself with frantic screams and sparring rhymes, rather instead, he opts to command the attention of his audience with chilly lyricisms nonchalantly.

McNair's Death Ruled a Homicide

Authorities have now confirmed Steve McNair's death to be a homicide caused by 4 gunshot wounds by a semiautomatic pistol with 2 shots each to the chest and head. Sahel Kazemi, whose body was found next to McNair suffered from one fatal shot to the side of the head. Today more details are surfacing about their relationship and the cause of the incident. Reports are alleging that McNair and her met at a sports bar, in which she was working at as a waitress, and that the two had been dating for the past several months. Police reports show that just two days prior to the deaths of McNair and Kazemi, Kazemi had been pulled over and charged by police for a DUI. McNair, who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time was allowed to leave by taxi and later bailed Kazemi out of jail. At the moment, authorities are not labeling their deaths as a homicide-suicide caused by Kazemi.

Summer Jam of the Day

Ghost Town D.J.'s, "My Boo"

This song was a smash hit back in the summer of 96'. That smooth Miami Bass sound was what I've always enjoyed about this song. In my opinion this song still knocks in the club whenever I hear it.

K.P. & Envyi, "Swing My Way"

K.P. & Envyi, "Swing My Way," was released back in 97'. Even though "Swing My Way" was released at the end of 1997 it still possesses a summer time feel to it. It's a summer time classic in my opinion. Also note, a cameo appearance by Sleepy Brown and a young Polow da Don in this music video.

Summer Jam of the Day

Happy 4th of July to everyone out there. Today is such a special day that I've decided to feature two classic summer jam tracks from the summer of 1995. Enjoy.

Montell Jordan, "Somethin' 4 Da Honeyz."
This track was released as Montell's second single right after the megahit "This is How We Do It" dropped.

This music video is also famous for a fight that had broken out between members of Death Row Records and Ruthless Records. Here's a video documenting the incident. Sorry for bringing such negativity into such a beautiful day.

Check around 1:46 for video footage on the altercation between the two camps.

Adina Howard, "Freak Like Me."

This music video was so hot back in the days that Ghostface Killah had to mention Adina Howard's name on Raekwon's song, "Ice Cream."

Ousted President Vows Return

Think you had a bad day. Try losing your country. Ousted democratically elected Honduran president, Manuel Zelaya last Sunday was reportedly awoken to gunfire and was snatched from his bed and detained while in his pajamas and forcefully flown to Costa Rica hours before polls were opened for Honduran citizens to vote on a constitutional referendum that would allow presidents to serve more than one term, was to take place.
